Midgrade novels are curious things. We don’t often think of children’s books as Serious Literature. But the books that have had some of the greatest impact on the world of literature (and our lives) are children’s novels: Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, The Giver to name a few.

These novels have captivated children and grown-ups alike. They have seized our imaginations, echoed our fears, inspired our bravery, and changed our lives. Whether you are looking for a novel for a kid in your life or you want to leave the sometimes unmagical world of grown-ups behind, here are imaginative midgrade novels for every kid or kid at heart.
